My sister sent me this DDR dance pad and disc bundle as a gift. She knew I had the Wii with the Fit balance board and love that. This is advertised as “compatible with the Wii balance board” – but that’s NOT TRUE. You need a “converter.” This game is designed to work with the Nintendo Game Cube. The plug for the DDR dance pad DOES NOT FIT INTO THE Wii PLATFORM. You need a separate converter which costs about $35 additional. I don’t think this dance functionality is worth that much money. So I’m sending it back.

I hate when this happens. Should I tell my sister?

My kids received this as a present, set it up, it seemed to work, but they couldn’t get any of the dance steps to register AT ALL. Not a single one. The useless character on the screen only intoned “Try Harder!” over and over, finally leading to “FAILURE” or whatever. Needless to say, after an hour or so of this, the kids were in tears.

I started doing tech support on this, and the first thing I noticed was that the pad was not actually broken and seemed to work correctly. On the menus, the pad worked fine for pressing A and B, moving around with the arrows, etc. But like the kids, I also could not score a single hit on even the easiest tutorial.

Doing some research on the Internet suggested that it needed to be plugged into a different socket. I had looked casually at the “quick start” instructions and noted that the kids had plugged it into the left-most socket, as the diagram implied. Looking closer now, I saw that the diagram in the instructions was UPSIDE DOWN!!! If you have your Wii sitting on its side, right-side up (with the drive on top), the diagram in the instructions is upside down.

This wouldn’t be so bad except for the failure of the software to recognize this condition in any way. Clearly it would have taken just a few lines of code to have the game give a warning that “your pad is plugged into the wrong port”. This is crap poor user interface, and obviously they didn’t take any real time to try this out with real kids. You suck, Konami.

So, it really deserved one star, but I’m giving it two in the hopes that my kids will enjoy it, now that we’ve incurred hundreds of dollars of labor and misery so far. They’ll be up in a few minutes.

I purchased this because I wanted the mat and the game looked like a good starter. **Using the accessory** mat is like stomping on a diaper. You can hear every shift of movement. I wear a US 5 shoe and my feet are too big for the square unless my ankles are consistantly touching. **The game instructions** are useless. I had to nintendo call customer care to find my new console’s cube cables and there is literally one page written in several different languages (Thank you for the diversity, Tiwan). **Playing the game** with the balance board means hours of fun hulahooping or leaning a certain direction. With the diaper mat…well, I still haven’t quite figured what steps I’m allowed to do with that yet, so it’s an awful lot of stuttered jumping and confusion. The cartoon lady does breakdancing and whatnot, while you are instructed to shake your nunchuck, hope it registers, and stomp a certain number of times on one of 4 squares.

I played this game for about an hour or more trying to make myself like it. I hate it. I cannot return it because the disc was opened…I’ve contemplated resealing the disc myself, but my conscience wont let me rip off Walmart. $70 wasted dollars for a piece of crap that I’ll still be forcing myself to try to enjoy. DO NOT BUY THIS!!

I asked for this game for Christmas because I thought it would be a fun activity to rotate in with my Wii Active program and from reviews thought it would be fun. Even in the DDR school I found it very frustrating to get the steps and didn’t appreciate the negative feed-back. Much of the time I felt like I needed a third foot in order to succeed. It made me feel very uncoordinated, which I know I am not since I have taken many dance classes from ballroom to contemporary. Perhaps it is too rigid and not the right dance game for me. I’ve decided to look into Adult Education classes in my area for a real dance class.

I bought this game for my wife, who loves dancing. We connected the controller pad, inserted the disk, and immediately noticed that all the game menus started scrolling to the left uncontrollably. We thought that it was a “feature”, showing that particular menu needed to have a selection made. Wrong! We clicked on the scrolling items to attempt to stop it, or at least slow it down, unsuccessfully. Guessing maybe the game needed to reset, we powered off the Wii console, and restarted the game, with the same results. On the 2nd attempt, we did get a song selected, and my wife attempted to play/dance. It was a horrible mess. It was then we discovered the left arrow on the controller pad was causing the game to scroll everything to the left. Unplugging the pad stopped the scrolling, plugging it back started it again. The controller pad looks to be a weak spot for the game. The vinyl looks like it would not stand up to much dancing. We boxed it back up and returned it.
